What do we do if it rains?

Sometimes I get the question about what to do if it rains. I always work to the best of my ability to do the photo session, even if we have to adjust the time or date..

Reserved Rain Date?

I do not reserve ‘rain dates’ because 9/10 times when the forecast is calling for rain a week out, it does clear up the day of.

Coastal Weather Patterns?

Since Charleston is on the coast, storms can pop up fast but blow through quickly. It’s more rare in the Summer months to have an entire day of rainy weather. Typically it will rain for about an hour or two and then clear up and the forecast often changes by the hour.

When to make the call?

I always text-confirm sessions the Friday before the session. At that point I check the weather and stay in touch via text about the changing forecast. As long as your schedule is flexible, I will typically make the final call just a few hours before the session time.

Pop up showers?

On the day of your session, often we can adjust to a few hours earlier or later to avoid pop up showers and the skies may be overcast but without rain.

Overcast lighting?

Overcast lighting is beautiful especially if there are rain clouds in the distance. Overcast skies also allow for us to do the session at a time when the lighting typically would be too harsh- like 11:00am or 1:00-2:00 pm. This allows for more options when rescheduling! If it’s slightly sprinkling, just bring an umbrella and we can get some cute fun shots with umbrellas!

Are there any covered areas?

There are not many options for large covered areas around Isle of Palms, Downtown, or Folly. Downtown has a few hotels if you are open to an indoor look. If it is only lightly sprinkling, White Point Gardens is a perfect spot with a covered gazebo and large oak tree coverage.

Kiawah Island has the Sanctuary Hotel with some very pretty architectural covered walkways outside. They also have thick coverage oak trees so if it’s just lightly sprinkling the trees provide enough coverage to stay somewhat dry.

Cancelling the session?

Worst case scenario if we aren’t able to reschedule and the indoor spaces are not acceptable then we can cancel the session and you will be provided a full refund if you prepaid.
